Red Hook Independent Babysitters ("RHIB," "we," "us," or "our") is a community cooperative connecting families in Red Hook, Brooklyn with local babysitters. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information about you when you use our platform at redhook.app.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account or use our service:

  • Account information: Your name and email address when you register.
  • Sitter profiles: If you sign up as a babysitter, you may provide additional information including a bio, experience, availability, and neighborhood.
  • Booking requests: When families post babysitting jobs, we collect details about the requested care (date, time, number of children, and any special notes).
  • Communications: Messages or correspondence you send through the platform.

We do not collect payment card information directly. Future payment processing will be handled by a third-party payment processor (Stripe) subject to their own privacy policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and maintain your account
  • Match families with available sitters in the community
  • Send transactional emails (booking confirmations, account notifications, and service updates)
  • Display sitter profiles to families searching for care
  • Respond to your questions or support requests
  • Improve and maintain the platform

We do not use your information for advertising or sell your data to third parties.

3. Information Sharing

We share your information only as required to operate the service:

  • Within the platform: Sitter profile information (name, bio, experience) is visible to families using the platform. Families' booking requests are visible to sitters.
  • Service providers: We use Loops.so to send transactional emails on our behalf. They receive your email address and name for this purpose only.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or community.

We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Cloudflare's edge infrastructure (D1 database), which provides encrypted storage. We use HTTPS for all data transmission. We limit access to personal information to personnel who need it to operate the service.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We take reasonable precautions but cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Rights

You have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may update your account information at any time through your profile settings.
  • Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and associated personal information. We will fulfill deletion requests within 30 days, subject to any legal retention obligations.
  • Portability: You may request your data in a portable format.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We use session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies, analytics pixels, or behavioral advertising technologies.

7. Children's Privacy

Our platform is intended for use by adults (parents, guardians, and babysitters). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and notify registered users by email for material changes. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
